In Memory of Bonnie Tyler
August 17 2026
Everyone at Cerebral Palsy Cymru was deeply saddened to hear of Bonnie Tyler's passing.
Bonnie had supported our charity since our early Bobath Wales days, and her support over so many years meant a great deal to us. She was a wonderful Ambassador, always incredibly enthusiastic about the charity and generous in using her voice and profile to champion our work.
She visited our first centre in Whitchurch a number of times, taking time out of a busy tour schedule in 2006 to meet the children and families, and then again in 2013, where she was taken on a tour of the centre and chatted with therapy staff about the difference our therapy makes to children and families. Bonnie said at the time, 'I was thrilled to see the children and amazed at how much the centre has developed since the last time I visited’.
The friendships Bonnie forged with our founding families, alongside the fundraising she did for us through concerts and collections, played a hugely important role in helping us raise awareness and vital funds to support children and families living with cerebral palsy across Wales.
Amongst her support over the years, Bonnie attended a book launch in 2014 for pupils at a Swansea special school, with proceeds going to the charity, and then a year later, Bonnie Tyler and friends performed in concert live at the Princess Royal Theatre in Port Talbot, in aid of Bobath Wales and other local charities. She would also often generously donate to our Big Give Christmas Challenge which raises funds for babies at high risk of having cerebral palsy.
We were so proud to see Bonnie awarded an MBE in 2023 in recognition of her services to music and her support for Welsh charities, including Cerebral Palsy Cymru.
We will remember Bonnie's kindness, compassion and empathy for our children and families with enormous gratitude and affection. Her generosity, enthusiasm and commitment helped raise vital awareness of children and their families living with cerebral palsy in Wales and her legacy lives on in her charitable work and the timeless songs that made her a legend.
Our thoughts are with Bonnie's family, friends and all who knew and loved her at this difficult time.
A Celebration of Gaynor's life will be held at Swansea Minster (St. Mary's Church) today, Monday 17th August at 12noon.
A representative of Cerebral Palsy Cymru was proud to attend the funeral.
