2.6 Challenge

May 21 2020

On the 26th April, our families and supporters took to their gardens, living rooms and local streets to take part in the 2.6 challenge in aid of Cerebral Palsy Cymru.

On the 26th April, our families and supporters took to their gardens, living rooms and local streets to take part in the 2.6 challenge in aid of our charity.

The 2.6 challenge was launched by the Mass Participation Sports Organisers (MSO) Group, which includes London Marathon Events as well as other UK event organisers. Their aim was to ‘Save the UK charities’ and collectively raise as much funds for charities across the UK on the 26th April, the day when the 2020 London Marathon was set to take place.

Members of the public were tasked with coming up with an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and to fundraise for a charity that was close to their heart.

Across the weekend, over 50 of our families and loyal supporters took part in the 2.6 challenge in a bid to raise funds for us. Together, thanks to the support of their family, friends and local communities, they managed to raise a phenomenal amount of money – over £15,000 in just a few days!

Below are just some of the inspirational individuals who came up with their own 2.6 challenges to support Cerebral Palsy Cymru.

Sharon Lewis, mum of Grace, decided to lace up her trainers and run 2.6 miles in aid of us. “The reason I chose to do this challenge is for the amazing work that Cerebral Palsy Cymru do for so many children and families, including mine.”

Matilda, aged 2, walked 26 widths of her garden on her walker and raised £1,220!

Oliver Wilson and his father Ryan climbed 2.6 miles up a mountain and back in time for a celebratory tea! Thanks to the support of their local community, they raised over £3,000.

Tom Evans, whose mum is our Family Support Coordinator,  Glenys Evans, walked his dog Milo 26 times round his garden and baked 26 cakes for his carers to say a huge thank you for looking after him.

Emelia cycled 26 laps of her street on her beautiful pink bike over the course of a few days and raised £1,250 and is determined to continue cycling. “She has really enjoyed completing the challenge,” said her mum Francesca. “It has given her the confidence to ride her bike and I hope that she continues to do so with this newfound enthusiasm!"
