Corporate partnership blog - Slater & Gordon Lawyers

November 20 2020

At Cerebral Palsy Cymru, the relationships we have with our corporate partners are so important to us.

Many of our corporate partnerships are long-standing and have grown over time, helping us to safeguard our services particularly at this challenging time.

We are delighted to showcase one such relationship with law firm Slater & Gordon, which has grown organically since 2017.  We have got to know in-particular their clinical negligence team led by Yvonne Agnew and her colleagues Julie Reynolds, Lara Bennett, Dannielle Hart and Amy Bills. The team specialise in injuries arising from birth of which they have many years experience

Amy tells us about a typical day in their team:

“Each day is very different for us, but our focus is on supporting the children and families we represent.

We spend our days attending conferences with Counsel and Case Managers, instructing experts, liaising with Case Managers to ensure that the families’ needs are met as well as many other tasks but most importantly, reassuring and keeping our families updated on a regular basis as we appreciate that the legal world can be daunting.

Of course, as a team, we also work very closely with Cerebral Palsy Cymru and this relationship has grown over the last few years. Our relationship with Cerebral Palsy Cymru is very important to us as it gives us an invaluable insight into cerebral palsy and ensures that we have the best understanding of our clients’ needs. Where possible, we can refer families that we help to Cerebral Palsy Cymru.

We hold regular clinics for the families that Cerebral Palsy Cymru support to answer any questions that they may have about their own experiences. These usually take place via an informal chat with one of our lawyers. The families that we have spoken with find it very beneficial, and we would welcome anyone who thinks we may be able to help to get in touch. We are very friendly!”

One of the families that the team at Slater & Gordon have recently represented explained how their support has helped them on their journey.

“As a family we decided to instruct Slater & Gordon Lawyers as in all honesty, we felt a bit lost. We knew that our daughter had suffered a severe injury during birth causing cerebral palsy, but we didn’t know where to turn next. After instructing, Yvonne Agnew at Slater & Gordon, we felt in safe hands and trusted Yvonne to guide us through what was quite a turbulent few years.

We are very proud of how our daughter has overcome so many challenges, but we are also now relieved that the future is secure and allows for so many more opportunities. It has enabled our whole family to have a better, less stressful life. We really are very glad that we took the step to approach Slater & Gordon, and are thankful for their support, hard work and dedication to not just our daughter’s claim, but to our whole family.”
Yvonne Agnew, Head of Clinical Negligence at Slater and Gordon, said: “This case, like many like it, took a long time to go through the process of finally reaching a settlement. It is always important to ensure that the full extent of any injury and requirements for care and support is fully explored and evidenced, and this inevitably takes time.

The family in this case although dedicated to creating the best possible future for their child were inevitably struggling with the lack of support and care provision that their daughter desperately needed. It is now thankfully the case that the necessary care, therapy, equipment as well as adapted accommodation are fully accessible, and this will be life changing. Awards are designed to create security and a better future, and I am extremely pleased that this has been achieved for this delightful young lady and devoted family.

I am privileged to deal with many matters of this magnitude, and I remain in awe of the dedication and devotion that parents show, often in extremely difficult circumstances and I wish them all the very best for the future.”

We cannot thank the Slater & Gordon team enough for their continued support.
